Drew University’s Student Government was established recognizing the need for a united and dedicated voice to advocate and provide services for the CLA student body, and affirming that students have the liberty to self-govern through a strong and democratic institution.
We believe that the organization has strayed from this original message, and commit ourselves to meaningful reform by the following guiding principles.
Participatory Governance
To truly represent its constituents, the government must actively encourage the participation of students from every part of campus life. We envision a Drew Student Government that is constantly receiving and responsive to input from campus leaders and community groups.
Advocacy & Responsibility
The ultimate goal of Student Government is to act as the voice of the student body in the face of the administration. A failure of the organization to fight for student values is fundamentally a failure to live up to that mandate. Under our leadership, the SGA will push back against unpopular changes and advocate for the beliefs and values that shape our campus.
Transparency & Engagement
To truly represent its constituents, the government must actively encourage the participation of students from every part of campus life. We envision a Drew Student Government that is constantly receiving and responsive to input from campus leaders and community groups.
Servant Leadership
The building blocks of good government are people willing to put the needs of their community over their own. In this right, we envision an organization of servant leaders and organizers, always ready to do what is necessary to advance the causes of the Drew student body. We unabashedly put people before profits, fighting for a school that is first interested in its students, before its bottom line.
